Pinterest has enjoyed exponential growth since its inception in December 2009.
Its simple design allows “pinners” to pin material to share with other visitors.
However Pinterest is discerning about who may post material on its website.
Interested individuals must request an invitation to join the site.
This controlled approach has not hindered its ability to gain rapid popularity, however.
The company amassed a whopping 17.8 million users since it began to operate as an open-beta.

The market that Pinterest is geared towards is more narrow in scope than that of other all-encompassing social media networks.
The website has a theme which is centered on sharing recipes, photos, scrapbook ides and other crafty life-hacks.
Despite the vast availability of websites for nearly every type of content, Pinterest has nonetheless found a successful niche in the marketplace.
