I work as a Performance Engineer for a leading non profit Health Care system that
employs more than 55,000 employees and is a $10 billion integrated global health
enterprise comprised of more than 20 hospitals and clinical locations.
We run a 6 way Parallel Sysplex which heavily utilizes a V11 IMSPlex with Shared
Queues and processes approximately 2 million Fast Path and Full Function
transactions per day.
Several IBM® Tivoli® OMEGAMON® products are used to monitor our enterprise, however,
the success of our business applications is extremely reliant on IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON
XE 420 for IMS on z/OS.
In the second quarter of 2012, projected business needs will increase throughput of
our IMSPlex to approximately 4 - 6 million transactions per day with possible peaks
of up to 8 million per day during quarter end processing.
Because of the criticality of our IMS Shared Queues environment, we want to ensure
no Performance degredation occurs as our transaction volume increases. Is there

IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE 420 for IMS on z/OS RTA Shared Queues collector has recently
been upgraded with PTF UA64159. Here are some of the highlights of this effort;
–The time a message spends on shared queues is now part of Input and Output times.
- OMEGAMON and IMS Performance Analyzer (IMS PA) have sync'ed response time
algorithms and report the same response times within an IMSplex.
- OMEGAMON has optimized collection and memory algorithms reducing both CPU
and memory usage
Benchmarks run in the Performance lab, as a result of the above changes, have
shown significant reductions in CPU% and Storage of Classic.
