In terms of installing, you can use the web install method (install IBM Installation Manger for OS X and then point to the IBM servers for RDi 951 - see http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21667734 for details) or install from a downloaded image of 9.5.1 from Passport Advantage... Great news everybody, The development team for Rational Developer for Power have been very busy producing videos and demos to illustrate how to install configure, use projects, edit, navigate source, validate, build, debug on our supported languages on IBM i, AIX, and Linux. Check it out. Learning how to effectively use these tools has never been easier. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/ieduasst/rtnv1r0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.iea.rdp/plugin_coverpage.html
With RDi V7.5 come some changes to the default user ID for connection types. In previous releases when you would connect to IBM i, Linux, etc. the user ID field would be empty. Now the user ID field is pre-filled with your Windows login ID. If your Windows login ID matches your connection login ID then this is good news and will make logging in quicker. However for those that don't have them matching, like myself, you can manually change the default user ID. Since for IBM i connection types I have the same login ID for all my machines, I... [More]
I have RDi Version 9.5. When editing source, pressing the Enter key causes a new blank line to be inserted under the row where the cursor is positioned... usually. If the parser association for SQLRPGLE members is ILErpgSql, and I have touched any line within an SQL statement, pressing Enter from anywhere in the source causes a line to be inserted where I last touched the SQL. The cursor may jump and insert the new blank line hundreds of lines from where the cursor was when I pressed Enter. More interesting, if I use PDM... [More]
I don't know how many times a day I have to hit Ctrl+z to undo Word or PowerPoint's "auto correction" of my i to an I (as in Rational Developer for I, Rational Team Concert for I, or IBM I). So I finally bit the bullet and removed those auto-correction rules since I don't generally write about myself in Word or PowerPoint. Honestly, i have no idea why it took me so long
Hi, I am trying to migrate my department's source version/control into a git based environment. I tried to install eGit and it complained about missing dependencies. Does eGit plug-in to RDi v.9.5. require Modernization Tools, Java Edition (I have only RPG and COBOL Tools as the only feature in RDi)?
Over the past 2 months I've been doing a monthly webcast series with Sirius Computer Solutions on Rational Developer for i (RDi) . The format is generall 40 min deep dive on a specific topic, 10 min preview of the next month's topic, and 10 mins for Q&A. So far we have covered an overview and a deep dive on RSE. The webcasts are being recorded and are available for playback . The next one is this coming Friday (November 13th) and will cover the Integrated i Debugger; one of my favorite RDi topics because it's so easy to use and something I... [More]
We get a lot of questions about SQL tools and Rational Developer for i (RDi) . While we didn't ship the Eclipse Data Tools Platform (SQL tooling) in RDi 7.1 or 7.5, they can be added in after the fact. This is one of the great advantages of an extensible, integrated development environment like Eclipse (which RDi is built on top of). Dmitry Baev , one of the RDi developers, has a new article published in IBM Systems Magazine on Using the Eclipse Data Tools Platform and SQL Tools with RDi .
System i Developer (a.k.a Susan, Jon, Paul, and Skip) have updated their RSE Pin-up with 10 new shortcuts and new tips on customizing the RPG editor. These 10 new shortcuts now bring the total to 46; including what I would consider to be the core, must know, RSE keyboard shortcuts. Printing and posting this is a must for anyone using the RSE!
