To be honest, I am a total social media addict. The first thing I do in the morning is check my Foursquare to see what cool places my friends are checked in to, next I check my Twitter feed to get the latest news and updates about what is going on in the world (I even dressed up as the Twitter bird for Halloween this year!). I check each of these constantly throughout the day. I love the feeling connected to my friends, family and the rest of the world. Each of these social networks provide a unique service that keeps me coming back and using them everyday. One trend I have noticed recently is that both of these companies have entered into strategic partnerships with American Express. What is involved in these partnerships you ask? American Express + Foursquare allows users to link their American Express credit card to their Foursquare account so that when they check in to certain venues, they receive discounts or money back on their American Express credit card. American Express + Twitter allows users to link their American Express credit card with their Twitter account and receive discounts or extra savings if they tweet about their purchase/savings using specific hashtags. Both of these campaigns signal an exciting trend that is taking place in the social business industry. The sharing of knowledge and information and communication across different groups and networks has allowed all three of these companies to better solve business problems and more importantly, serve their customers. These partnerships with American Express, Foursquare and Twitter are prime examples of the ways in which social media can be leveraged to add value to various different businesses.
