Is there such a thing as coincidence? At this point I'm not so sure. A few days ago I found myself drawn to an article by Thomas DeLong in the Harvard Business Review claiming that no matter how successful you get, there's always someone higher up the ladder who can make you feel small: "Comparing is a trap that permeates our lives, especially if we're high-need-for-achievement professionals. No matter how successful we are and how many goals we achieve, this trap causes us to recalibrate our accomplishments and reset the bar for how we... [More]

Read other blogs Just reading other blogs - any other blogs - will help you grow as a blogger - although it helps to read other blogs on topics you blog about. I finally grew tired enough of my boring, photo-less, bio-less blog that I took the time one evening last week to dig into the instructions and template in the My developerWorks bloggers group and add some pizazz to my blog . I'm not sure pizazz is the right term. Maybe just getting up to waterline is more appropriate. But anyway, it was worth the time. However, I would recommend pulling snippets of code from the template and as opposed to replacing your current weblog code entirely. The later didn't work for me and kept giving me errors. And... While stirring my instant hot chocolate with a teaspoon one day this past winter, I thought to myself, "I sure wish there was some sort of mini electric emulsifier that I could use to do this so that all the powdered lumps and granules would easily dissolve into a nice creamy blend." As I often do when I'm wishing for some device I'm not sure has even been invented yet, I went to Google and searched on "electric teaspoon." And lo and behold, up popped several hits. I am now the happy owner of what one of my friends calls... [More]
