It's stressful, it's wasteful, it's boring ... and it's anything but intelligent! If you've spent any time sitting in gridlock, you've probably thought: In this day and age, there has to be a better way to manage a transportation system.
Well, now there is -- and guess who's behind it? IBM Intelligent Transportation provides a comprehensive and scalable platform for transportation management that can help users analyze and optimize traffic patterns in a broad range of environments and conditions. It's a sensible software solution to a real-world challenge, so naturally developerWorks' Industries zone has it covered: First, they introduce you to the Traffic Management Data Dictionary (TMDD) standard, and show you how it's used in the IBM Intelligent Transportation product; they then explore how a traffic data gateway can effectively capture raw traffic data from detectors embedded in roadway infrastructures.
And Intelligent Transportation is just one facet of IBM's new Smarter Cities initiative. Looks like congestion is easing on the road ahead.
Until next week,
