I don't know about you, but I take my appliances for granted. Hey, I've spent my hard-earned money on them so I expect them to work as advertised -- getting my clothes clean, heating my food properly, washing my dishes -- all with minimal input from me. Is that so much to ask?
Well, it can be a pretty tall order if you're talking about a data warehouse appliance that's fully functional, low maintenance, and easy to use -- but the IBM Netezza appliance fills that order handily. This week, author Michael Kearney takes you inside the Netezza data warehouse appliance and shows you how it advances the state of the art in data warehousing and analytics and provides answers at the press of a button. It's the cover story for this week's issue of IBM Data Management magazine, which also explores solid state drives, temporal data, and how to keep trains running on time.
I feel fortunate to have so many modern conveniences at my disposal, which at the moment are all working properly. Of course, I keep the repair service on speed-dial, just in case.
Until next week,
