1. People who say "why not" and jump right in with no idea what you're getting into.
2. People who hesitate at first - it might be because you're not sure if it makes sense for you, you're not sure how to start, you're afraid to make a mistake, or you have unanswered questions.
3. And then there are the people who aren't on Twitter and never will be - hey, that's okay. But you're probably not reading this blog post anyway.
Myself, I was a hesitator - there's no shame in it! But don't let hesitation hold you back. Get your questions answered, find good resources and jump in. And if you've already jumped in, that's great - but you may want to spend tweak your approach to Twitter by brushing up on the basics.

And my personal beginner's checklist:
- Do you plan to use your Twitter account for topics that are personal, professional, or a mix?
- Does your Twitter name tie to a specific business or job role or yourself as an individual? Either one can work - just be sure it's a deliberate choice and you've thought through how you want to approach it.
- Do you have a good profile and background graphic that reflects the image you want to project - your personal brand or the brand of your company?
- Do you have a web site (like a business web site or blog or social networking profile) you want to link to from your Twitter account?
- Are you using URL shorteners for your tweets?
- Are you using your URL shortener to check the clicks on your tweets? That can help you learn which tweets work best with your followers.
- Are you working on the wording of your tweets trying to take it from good to great?
- Are your tweets short enough? Don't max them out to 140 characters - leave room - let's say at least 25 extra characters - that way people will be more likely to retweet.
- Are you sharing your Twitter account with the rest of your network? Add it to your email signature, your web site, your online profiles, your business card - it's just like your phone number or email address. Make it easy for people to find you.
