Welcome to the Application Performance Management Blog, where you can read the perspectives from APM experts. This Blog provides insights into the Application Performance Management solution, as well as technical details about specific IBM products.
Always wanted to be able to pull all of the OS and ITM versions for every agent in your enterprise in one single action... On this installment of the SPUFI series, I will show you exactly how to do that. This is another powerful way to obtain great information from your TEMS outside the GUI.
If you missed part one on how to use the tool here is a quick link: --- > Li n k t o bl o g o n e i n th e SP U FI s eri e s

On the latest installment of the series, this nugget (blog) will show you how to find the required TEMS database schema so you can extract key information directly from your TEMS. This information is great for speeding up environment healthchecks, dumping large amounts of data quickly outside the GUI, etc.
For you to be able to extract the TEMS database schema directly from your TEMS machine. You will then be able to build your own SQL SELECT statements to extract information from the... [More]
Some time ago, not sure when or why, we started collecting elephants. Now finding a place for an elephant can be difficult, but since these were small elephants made of wood or ceramics, we just needed a small place, but something that would allow each unique elephant to be seen. We have a beautiful old desk with many shelves and slots, and our elephant collection stands out very nicely there. One fun thing about such a collection is looking for just the right elephant to add to it, and it is also fun to remember where each... [More]
Right behind my house is an old railroad line that has been converted into a hiking and biking trail called the American Tobacco Trail , and about a mile down, a creek runs under the trail. Of course, several other smaller creeks and run-offs converge to form this creek, and years ago, the railroad owners built a couple of pipes to allow the creek to keep flowing under the railroad tracks. After a big rain, the creek swells up and the flow through the pipes increases, but I don't have a way to know which of those... [More]

Updates for the Java webstart client crash issues. ( Please refer my previous blogs - Java 6u65 and Java 7u45 )
The failure is caused by new security enforcement of JRE runtime parameters in Java Webstart deployed applications jnlp files. This security change was introduced with Oracle JRE 6u65 and JRE 7u45.
The APAR IV51394 is opened to resolve this problem and provisional fixes for the following releases will be tentatively available on Friday, Nov 15th:
6.3.0-TIV-ITM-FP0001, 6.3.0-TIV-ITM-FP0002... [More]
If you have ever needed to move an agent from one Hub TEMS environment to another, you'll know that reconfiguring the agent to connect to a different TEMS is the easy part. Before that agent will begin to monitor the resources it was previously monitoring, all the Situations, Groups, Overrides, Calendars, EIF slot customisations, Managed System Lists, (MSLs), Long Names and distributions must be replicated on the new Hub. If the agent has subnodes, the monitoring objects associated with its subnodes must be moved, too. This is a complex and... [More]
On the forth installment of the SPUFI series, we look at our third "use case". This blog will show you how to extract key information via the command line from your TEMS relating to which agents are assigned to which MSL (Managed system list). This is a very powerful way to obtain great information from your TEMS

Oracle added same security updates in Java 1.7u45 that I mentioned in my previous blog into Oracle Java 1.6u65.
As a result, Java webstart client will fail to start with Oracle Java 1.6u65.
The only work around at this point is to use Oracle Java 1.6 u51 or less. The customer can also use the TEP browser client as an alternative.
We opened an APAR IV51394 to resolve this issue but we don't have ETA yet. We'll update the progress when we have a solid plan.
As of Oracle Java 1.7.0u45 the TEP java webstart client failed to start.
The following link talks about the new enforcement of Java runtime parameters in jnlp files.
The only work around at this point is to use Oracle Java 1.7.0u40 or less. The customer can also use the TEP browser client as an alternative.
We opened an... [More]
