An existing BPM monitoring solution - IBM Business Monitor - provides monitoring related to the business efficiency and effectiveness of the process itself. It focuses on giving real time visibility into the results of the business processes.
The new SmartCloud APM 7.6 monitoring solution extends IBM’s BPM monitoring support by focusing on the IT infrastructure that is supporting these business processes. If a problem is identified, you have the information that you need to identify the change you need to make to the infrastructure to ensure the availability and performance of business processes.
Scenarios supported by SmartCloud APM 7.6
The SmartCloud APM BPM monitoring solution helps to ensure the continuity of your business processes operation. It does this by fulfilling two monitoring scenarios:
Monitoring and Diagnostic scenario: This scenario gives you visibility into the IT infrastructure and the performance of those IT infrastructures, as associated with business processes. This scenario provides the linkage that relates the performance of business processes to the IT infrastructure that supports them. It enables you to track the health and performance of BPM components. You can trace business process issues to the IT infrastructure that supports your BPM environment. This solution helps BPM application support teams, who typically focus on business processes, and who may struggle with visualizing and resolving technical issues that affect process performance of the underlying IT infrastructure.
Impact Analysis scenario: This scenario allows IT staff to identify any business processes that are affected by problems in the infrastructure layers. It links IT resource issues to the impact on business processes. You can identify the business processes that are affected by a specific problem at the IT resource level. Use the BPM solution to prioritize the repair of problems based on impact at the BPM solution level. This solution helps IT team members who typically focus on technical domains, systems, and resources to get an insight into the business process side of emerging problems. For example, if a database or network issue is detected, the IT team are able to identify the business processes that are affected.
