If you are just considering IBM® Business Process Manager, you might consider IBM BPM Advanced because it gives you advanced capabilities regarding straight-through processing and integration with your enterprise and your enterprise service bus, functions that you might eventually need. 

Note: If you are considering IBM BPM Advanced, it is important to install IBM BPM Advanced up front, even if you initially use only the standard part of it, because it is easier than installing IBM BPM Standard today and later upgrading to IBM BPM Advanced.
