STANDARD CHARTERED BANK IMPLEMENTS
core banking solution using IBM technologies
THE BANK SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTED A CORE BANKING SOLUTION IN PAN-AFRICA USING IBM WEB SPHERE APPLICATION SERVER AND DB2 IN DATA
ORGANIZATION NAME: Standard Chartered
COMPANY PROFILE: Standard Chartered was formed in 1969 through a merger of two banks: The Standard Bank of British South Africa, founded in 1863, and the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China, founded in 1853. Today, it has network of over 1,700 branches and outlets and 5,600 ATMs in more than 70 countries and territories across the world
Standard Chartered Bank wanted to implement Core Banking Application implementation across Africa. However, the challenge was that networking between branches and data centres was very poor. From a customer service point of view, the need was to service customers even when the network was down.
The bank successfully implemented a Core Banking Solution in Pan-Africa using IBM Web Sphere, Application Server and DB2 in Data Centre. All the branches are using Web Sphere Express Edition and DB2 Express for data storage for store and forward purpose whenever the network not available. This solution has been implemented in 9 countries Pan-Africa across 200+ branches.
The bank is now able to service customers even when the network is down due to the offline and online process that was evolved.
