To use Debian Linux you need a LPAR (Logical Partition) to install it.

Login to you HMC (Hardware Management Console) and select the Powersystem to create a LPAR (Logical Partition) on.

BUT THIS ARE ONLY EXAMPLES YOU NEED TO SET THE RIGHT FOR YOUR ENVIRONMENT!

Configuration -> Create Logical Partition -> AIX or Linux

The Partiton ID you can change, but normaly not needed.

Set the Partiton Name, for example: debian6

Set the Processors

Here you need to choose the best for you!

Here you need to choose the best for you!

No selection at I/O

We need a Virtual Network Interface an 2 Virtual SCSI Adapters

The settings of this Adapter depends on your environment.

Create a adapter for eatch VIOS (Virtual I/O Server)

No selection at Logical Host Ethernet Adapters (LHEA) an HCA

Now set the SCSI Adapter on the VIOS

If you set it only in the Profile you need to shutdown (PowerOFF / PowerON) the VIOS.

You can add it dynamic to the VIOS.

Select the VIOS

Configuration -> Manage Profiles -> select you profile -> edit -> Virtual Adapters

In this example we have: VIO0 and VIO1

Connect the VIOS with the LPAR

Do the same on VIO1 but with Adapter: 3 and Client Adapter ID: 3

If you do it dymanic

Dynamic Logical Partitioning -> Virtual Adapters

and set the same as in VIO profile

Then you not need to Shutdown an reboot the VIOS.

But remember, if you only reboot the VIOS (no PowerOFF) then the dynmaic set virutal adapters are gone.

Then the profile is only read new if the VIOS is PowerOFF / PowerON.
