Viewing a file using the viewer

You can view an uploaded document, spreadsheet, presentation, or PDF file while working in Files.

About this task

Some file types can be viewed directly from within Files. These include OpenDocument files, including word processing documents (.odt), spreadsheets (.ods), and presentations (.odp). You can also view the Microsoft equivalents of these file types – Word documents (.doc and .docx), Excel spreadsheets (.xls and .xlsx), and PowerPoint presentations (.ppt and .pptx) – as well as .pdf files.

Viewing an uploaded file from within Files enables you to see the file contents, without first using the file download option. You can navigate within the file, change page magnification, navigate to specific pages, play a slide show, and print.

  1. Click Apps > Files to open the Files application.
  2. Open the file page that contains the uploaded file you want to view, for example click an existing .odt document in your My Files view to expose the View option.
  3. Click View on the file page.
Note: If the file type you have selected is not supported by the viewer, the View option is not displayed.
