Pinned topic Does running VIOS on 10K SAS disks impact client LPAR performance?

‏2014-07-10T15:03:33Z |

Hello All,

Does running VIOS on 10K SAS disks impact client LPAR performance, compared to running VIOS on 15K SAS disks?

I assume things like updateios may run slower with 10K, but is there any impact on client LPARs?

I am not planning for Active Memory Expansion or Shared Storage Pools. These will be DB partitions using VSCSI disk.

Thanks in advance,

Ed

    Hi Ed,

In my opinion, if the rootvg & datavgs of your VIOC LPARS resides on separate storage to your VIOS, then you should not experience any noticeable performance from using 10K vs 15K disks.

15Ks should be used for your high IO LPARS as the data latency will be much less and therefore you will get better performance.
