Pinned topic BladeCenter S SAS RAID dual controller survivor/failed problem

‏2014-03-07T10:47:25Z |

BladeCenter S 8886

After chasis restarted, SAS cotroller bay 3 is survivor, SAS controller bay 4 is failed

No error via CLI, only alert -get reporting 4101 warning

Eth switches is Nortel 2/3 GbESM v5.3.3

SAS RAID 1.2.1.015

AMM 3.66.C

Is it possible to recover SAS RAID to primary/secondary or to change config from dual to single controller.

"reseat solutions" not working. Always controller in bay 4 is failed after few secons.

Same happend to me, i resolved that removing the battery module and putting in back again, that solved the problem for me, the local IBM support also recomend me to upgrade the AMM firmware from my 8886

    http://www-933.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/systemx/selectFixes?parent=BladeCenter%2BS%2BChassis&product=ibm/systemx/8886&&platform=All&function=all#Management Module

Search for management module and download the latest fw

My AMM firmware is latest 3.66C, but no efect.

You just removed and reseating battery, or first dismounted via CLI / mountstate command?

Simple reseating didn't resolved my problem.

Both controllers working ok as a surviwor, when they are inserted to bay 3, and both are failed in bay 4.

I tried to upgrade firmware, but it is imposible with one controller in failed state.

    Did you resolve your issue?

    Unfortunately not.

Maybe it is posible to recover both controller separately in the single mode, but I don't know how to change config from dual to single.

    Hi Dan-K,

The standalone feature was introduced from firmware version 1.2.2.007.

To put the RSSM in standalone mode, remove the defective module.

Go in the AMM, under I/O task, then configuration, chose your remaining connected RSSM module, Go to advanced option, and press reset to default.

The module will reboot and will become standalone.

This will interrupt any production environment for a few minutes.

    Thanks Mr.Moe

So... my controllers are 1.2.1.015 version.

I can't update if any is in failed state.

    Correct.

The update will fail if it doesn't detect two controllers because of your firmware level.
