Pinned topic Android App Configuration

‏2013-05-21T21:57:53Z |

I have downloaded the WebFocus Mobil Faves Andriod App from Goggle Play.

Is there anything special that has to be done to get the App to work with Web Query?

The Mobile Faves Home server is already configured to use SSL & Port 443.

Is Web Query setup to use that port or should we be using another port?

Thanks

Eric - The documentation for the Android MobileFaves application is not yet complete, so here is some "how to" information:

To add a Web Query Server to the application server list:
    1)   Tap the "Add Server" button
    2)   In the resulting Add Server window, fill in the following:
Server Title - this can be text describing the connection
Alias -  This should be  webquery
HTTPS - leave this to the default of OFF
Hostname - this is the fully qualified URL for the webquery server  (for example  system.ibm.com)
Port - This is the HTTP port for Web Query 2..1.0 which is 12331
Username  -  This is the user name of a Web Query user that has access to Mobile Favorite content
Password - this is the Web Query user name password.
    3)   Tap the Save button when done

To connect to the Web Query Server
    1)   Tap the previously added connection on the list of available servers

    To Edit the connection
    1)   Tap and hold the connection in the Mobile Faves window
    2)   A menu will pop up with the "Edit" and "Delete" options
    3)   Tap "Edit" to make changes to the mobile faves connection
    4)   Tap "Save" or "Cancel" when done

    To run a report
    1)   Connect to the Web Query server
    2)   Expand the folder containing the report
    3)   Tap on the report to run it

The top ribbon on the application can be used to navigate within the application.

Tap on the Icon or the word in the ribbon to move within the application, for example tap "SHOW LIST" from the report display window to go back to the list of mobile faves content.  Tap the upper leftmost icon to navigate one level up.

With this app version, the following message will show in the report page under the report.  The message is not a failure and does not affect the report execution or results.  We are investigating this for resolution in the next group PTF:
"An unexpected application error has occurred.  Please contact your WebFOCUS Systems Administrator."

    Thanks

    I got it working.

Initially, I had an issue with it not connecting.

I had left the Alia field set to ibi_apps

When I changed it to webquery, everything worked fine.

If IBM comes out the a DB2 Web Query branded version of the Mobile Faves Android App, you may want to have that default changed to webquery

Also, you may want to highlight the values in the instructions above.

    Thanks

Gene, are there any news about mobile support for Android devices ? Some of my customers are asking for Android support.

    1. Should the HTTPS configuration settings still left OFF ?

    2. What about encrypted transmission of AS/400 userid and password ?

    3. The latest version of the WebFocus Mobile Faves App V.1.2 (dated June 21, 2013) in Google Play requires Android version 4.1 or later.
Will there be an IBM DB2 Web Query App for Android version 2 or 3 as announced in the Web Query New Features Guide ?

Thank you and best regards, Georg

    Georg - My responses below.

    1. Should the HTTPS configuration settings still left OFF ?
That is the default and  it should be lelft off unless you have HTTPS configured for Web Query on the server.

    2.  What about encrypted transmission of AS/400 userid and password ?
We send the userid & password over HTTP/HTTPS.  If concern is about pwd not being encrypted, then use HTTPS (this is the same behavior as a standard browser's login page).

    3.   The latest version of the WebFocus Mobile Faves App V.1.2 (dated June 21, 2013) in Google Play requires Android version 4.1 or later.    Will there be an IBM Web Query App for Android version 2 or 3 ? Will there be an IBM DB2 Web Query App for Android version 2 or 3 as announced in the Web Query New Features Guide ?
Unfortunately no. Initially, we did plan on supporting those versions on Android. But we ran into multiple issues that were only resolved by going to version 4.1. At the time that section of the new features guide was added to the doc this was in the plan - I will see about removing that verbiage because there no plans to support version below 4.1
