Session descriptions
Session 1 - Introduction to Cloud Computing

Learn more about Cloud computing basics, understand the business and technology drivers behind cloud computing and hear discussions on cloud technologies and architecture, such as Web 2.0, Web services, and SaaS.
Presenter: Kevin Czap, IT Professional with ISV and Developer Relations
Kevin is working on his 21st year with IBM. Kevin is a Project Management Professional certified by the Project Management Institute. He also has the following IBM certifications: IBM Rational Portfolio Manager Deployment Professional, Solution Designer, Solution Advisor and Technologist, and DB2. He has presented on various software development topics at the following conferences: LinuxWorld, O’Rielly Open, and Rational Software Development Conference. Kevin is currently the team lead for the developerWorks skills team helping IT professionals in skills development.

Session 2 - Building multi-tenant applications with IBM middleware: See some of the technical challenges associated with building a multi-tenant application and how they can be addressed with IBM middleware products.

Multi-tenancy is the ability to deliver an application to multiple client organizations from a single instance of software. In order to build successful software as a service (SaaS) applications, organizations need to design applications with multi-tenancy in mind to minimize the per-tenant cost of delivery. In this session, we’ll examine some technical challenges associated with building a multi-tenant application and how they can be addressed with IBM middleware products including WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Portal Server, and DB2. Some multi-tenancy challenges we'll address include access control, customization (data, user interface and business logic) and isolation of data.

Presenter: David Carew, IT Architect for IBM ISV and Developer Relations Technical

David provides education, enablement, and consulting to support IBM business partners who are using a variety of IBM products in their solutions. His product specialties include the IBM's Information Management suite of products and the WebSphere family of products. He also serves as the worldwide technical lead for all software as a service and cloud computing related initiatives within his organization. He joined IBM in 1988 and has held a variety of positions in IBM - from writing the code to control industrial robots to being part of the team that developed the AIX kernel. He holds BSc and MSc degrees from Northwestern University and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.

Session 3: Application development and deployment in the cloud with IBM WebSphere Application Server and Rational Application Developer: See a running instance of Websphere 7.0 in the Amazon Cloud.

In a virtual computing environment, you can develop, deploy, and manage applications, paying only for the time and capacity you use, while scaling up or down to accommodate changing needs or business requirements. This session is designed to show you how to interact with a running instance of Websphere 7.0 in the Amazon Cloud through a local instance of Rational Application Developer.
