Pinned topic Cloning vs renaming baselines

Hi,

When we can rename baselines why there is an option of cloning baselines (cleartol mkbl -clone) in UCM?

Thanks!

Using the -clone option on mkbl will create a copy of the existing baseline and a new name will be provided for that copy.  This means that the existing baseline remains untouched - no name change.

A rename of a baseline (and the label type for that baseline) will change the names of the baseline and lbtype which means that the baseline will no longer exist with the same name that it previously had.

I only found one technote on cloning baselines. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21395663

The question is why would somebody want to clone when  it can be renamed?
