Pinned topic Datapower does not write syslog to target server

‏2013-08-16T17:23:34Z |

I created log target and it does not write anything on the target server if I select "syslog" as Target Type.

It works fine if I just change the Target Type to syslog-tcp.

Any idea's where/what to check?

Thanks

NADP

What port you are writing it on to?

Is that port open on the syslog server to receive data from DP ?

syslog uses UDP and syslog-tcp would use TCP protocol. So you may want to check on syslog server - whther it allows UDP.

From DP side - you can go to status->logTarget to see what is happening with the log Target.

Thanks for the reply Vish !!

We are writing on to port 514. Yes its open, I checked with the network team, I even tested it with ping and  it works but it does not writing logs.

    Thanks

Ok. Then, these things I would check

    1. Syslog Facility

    2. Is the local adress you mentioned logTarget is whitelisted ( I guess, this is already true)

    3. No filters are enabled

    4. And lastly packet capture.

    Hi Vish,

What/Where do you want me to check about Syslog facility?

Everything else looks fine and checked except packet capture, I will get a packet capture to see if we can find anything.

    Thanks
