Pinned topic Relationships between different datatypes

‏2013-07-29T04:57:09Z |

Hi,

I'm building access definitions between Oracle tables and need to define a relationship between a VARCHAR2 parent column (CHAR_VAL_FK3) and a DATE child column (EFFDT).  This produces an error:

"The datatypes are not compatible.  CHAR_VAL_FK3 is VARCHAR2(50) and EFFDT is DATE."

I know that child expressions can use SUBSTR and concatenation functions but why no datatype conversion?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to achieve this?

Thanks,

John.

    John,

You can relate fields of two different types by using user exit routine on the relationship.

Look up this option in the distributed manual.

Also here is additional reference: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27015212 (This is for z/OS OPTIM though).

    Thanks,
