I'd recommend generating a support package (selecting the first/smallest option) and opening a software support ticket (PMR) with IBM.  Even on a heavily loaded system I'd expect an individual node canister to complete within 30 minutes from the point it goes offline to perform the upgrade.

Did you reload the browser page? If the first canister it starts upgrading is the management node (the one the web interface runs on), it fails over to the other node, and your browser stops getting updates about the status.

Not that its related to 7.1.0.1, its like that with any firmware update on the storwize.

Thanks for the comments, yes reloaded the browser with no change.

This morning it is still in the same state (~20hours later), logs collected and call logged with IBM.

will update the forum when I know more...

I've upgraded four of our V7000's from 6.4.1.4 to 7.1.0.1.  Each upgrade took about 2 hours.  No where near what you are going through.  Is there a USB key in the canisters?  :)

I too am curious to know how this turned out for you.

    Hi all,

IBM asked us to perform another "system snapshot" log capture (through script on USB key), that did not work as node canister1 was not responding.

We then had to remove and re-seat Node Canister 1, on doing so the upgrade kicked off again. Two hours later it failed and has reverted back to the existing firmware version.

    Logs sent to IBM again....

We have not had any feedback from IBM as yet on what options we have from here, will update when I know.

    regards

    Bernie

We had the same issue while upgrading to 7.1.0.1.

One of our 4 controllers was 'bricked' by the update. Reseating didn't help.

Working with support, eventually had the controller replaced, everything is fine now.

I am having second thoughts on upgrading two V7000 we administer from verion 6.4.1.4 to version 7.1.0.1, after looking at these two problems that arose with you guys.

I upgraded a V3700 today to 7.1.0.1 and it went by the book, taking aprox 70 minutes.

It seems most of the new stuff is for the v3700, so I dont see much reason to rush an upgrade on a V7000 atm.

This is what V7000 gets (besides bug fixes)

          New features in 7.1.0
Ability to configure FC ports for specific traffic types

v3700 gets to use the 3 SAS ports each controller have for host attachment, and gets EasyTier as a licensed option. The Latter was the reason I upgraded our v3700 today.

I just upgraded from 6.4.1.4 to 7.1.0.2. I had no problems. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes from start to finish, using automatic upgrade method.
