    Hi,

The debug icon remembers the last thing you launched in the debugger and tries to launch this.  If that was an .egl file that was in a different project or something like that, then it will fail.

My suggestion would be to either:

a.) Click the down arrow beside the debug icon and see what it is actually starting up and possibly go into the launch configurations and verify the settings.

    or

b.) Select the .egl file you want to debug and from the context menu, start the debugger from there one time.  this will reset the "last" debug if you just click the bug icon.

    Hey,

I don't think this has anything to do with the problem you are having with the password not set..unless it just happens to be the same workspace and it is corrupted somehow.

On the debug issue, first of all, I assume vid0.egl is a Rich UI handler. this would be required for the option you used.

Second..from googling this message (the syntax of the file, directory, or volume is incorrect) seems to say that somewhere in your folder structure, you have an invalid file or folder name.   Invalid meaning you have special characters or a wrong value in something like the folder the workspace is in, the workspace name itself, or the project name.  All these would contribute to an invalid name.

    Can you edit the file?

And if you right mouse click on it and look at its properties you should be able to see the "whole" path/file name for the specific file if you check the "resources" item.  See the sceen shot below:

    Hi Mark

i have tried to create a new worskpace, project and ruiHandler file, but i have the same problem. I have also followed your instrunctions for run the debug option b). (Select the .egl file you want to debug and from the context menu, start the debugger from there one time.  this will reset the "last" debug if you just click the bug icon.)  .

Anyway i have noted two things:

    1. If i display the property file i see alway "Type:(EGL Source file)" also if i have selected : file--> new --> Rich Ui Handler  when i created my .egl source file
    2. Yesterday when first i created my new workspace project ecc and then i tried to start debug, my pc Asked a Java Cd .. i don't well remenber and if try to do it again i don't receive more thsi message; question: could it possible a java problem , i should reinstall java

    here my version product:

    IBM Rational® Business Developer™ Version: 8.0.1.5

    C:\Users\MyUser>java -version
    java version "1.6.0_39"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_39-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.14-b01, mixed mode)

    Hi,

On the resource page, the value I was suggesting you look at was the ones that list the "Path" and then the "location". The location is the fully resolved name for the file

It sounds very odd that you were asked for a java CD... I have never heard of this.

The "system JRE" easily may not be the one that RBD is using.   If you are using the standard installs, then the JRE/JVM  used by RBD is the one that is shipped with the RBD install.  It is usually installed under the <product install>\non-shared directory starting with the folder name of "jdk"

I have put together a word document that shows how mine is setup and where the various places are you can look to see if the IBM JRE is being used within RBD.

I also showed the results of starting up the debugger for a RUI handler.   In my case, a page is also opened in Firefox (my default browser) with loading since the page is not rendered right away when I stop the debugger at the first statement.

Hope this might help you find something that does not look right.

If by chance RBD is using the Java Hotspot VM as is installed on your system, then maybe that is causing an issue.

    Hi Mark

in the meantime I have installed the version 9, and i have the same problem; i have followed you document and i see that in same case in file i have "/" and you have "\" and viceversa .. example in the installation details i have "C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP\jdk\jre\bin\javaw.exe"  instead you have "D:\rbdv801\\jdk/jre/bin/javaw.exe" .. why ????

anyway i repost your word document with placed side by side my screen shot...  if you could point me where is problem and how can solve it, i was very gratefull..

    Thanks in advance

p.s. sorry but i'm not able to attach my documents... i will try later ..
