DB2 Express-C 10.5 is now available for download. Express-C is the free edition of the DB2 database.
Unlike the competitor express offerings, DB2 Express-C does not impose any additional low limits on the size of your databases over other editions of DB2. The new DB2 Express-C 10.5 release also relaxes its memory restriction by 400%. It will now use up to 16GB of memory.
DB2 Express-C can handle database of any size, it can be used in production, and it can be redistributed with your applications.

Are you sure that this version can handle database of any size?
According to this doc:
Program charges: DB2 10.5 Express-C can be used for development and deployment at no charge. It can be installed on x64-based physical or virtual systems and may use up to a maximum of 2 processor cores and 16 GB of memory with no more than 15 terabytes of user data per database.

@ada4ko: You're right, aside from DB2 Enterprise and Advanced Enterprise, there is a general DB2 for LUW limit of 15,000 GB. I was referring to the much lower database size limits (e.g. 4 GB) imposed by some competitor products. I have edited the original post.

There is a known issue with installing DB2 10.5 on Windows XP 32-bit. You will receive a "setup.exe is not a valid win32 application" error. It is caused by a change in Visual Studio 2012 which is used to build DB2 10.5. Microsoft dropped support for older 32-bit operating systems in Visual Studio 2012.
Windows XP is not a supported platform at this time:

I tried installing the VS2012 (sp3) runtime on XP, but no joy.
According to this blog, I think IBM would need to modify their build environment to use the XP support in vs2012sp1:
i.e. there is nothing we end users can do. If anyone figures something out, I would love to hear about it.
I encountered the same issue with Win2003 (both 32 & 64-bit).
And the IBM doc calls out the removal of support for XP, Win2003, as well as Vista & Win2008 (non-R2):
So I think running 10.5 on XP or 2003 is a lot cause.. sigh.

Re: Download DB2 Express-C 10.5 - but what should I do? DOes exist an older DB2 Express version?2013-09-07T09:25:51Z in response to LeoPetraz
I installed db2express (I think 10.1) on December 2012 on an 8-year old computer Win XP (in school), on Thinkpad(Win7) without problem, but on "older" home computer WIn XP It was not possible. But it is my main Home computer (e.g. 22'' PC screen, 750 GB additional hard-disk, however older means that mother board and processor are maybe 10 years old). Thus, I started work with DB2 occasionally, I work only with DDL - files.
Now, I had to reinstal it on ThinkPad 10.5 and tried onec more to install it on my Home computer. Only accidentally I found after a half year that a setup file with allert: "setup.exe is not a valid win32 application".
What should I do? Or in another word. As a beginner with DB2 I need any simple version. Which lower version would work, i.e. would be installable on my WinXP computer?
P.S.: I have also problems after re-installation DB2express on ThinkPad, because ddl-codes which worked now did not function, e.g. it shows that I have database TEST and Sample, even connect to sample works, however connect to test shows that test does not exists, etc. But I have not time to search which paths etc. (I am aware, that DB2 remembered older paths/directories). By first re-installation it was aller SAMPLE already exist and it was cancelleld. After sesond re-installation I accidentaly install SAMPE, but sure it is not correct. Thus, I do not know, which old directories I have to delete. I am very confusing how complicated is all with the IBM DB2.
Note: you need not to comment P.S. becass I will re-install all ThinkPpad on the facory level

DB2 Text Search (db2ts) seems to have been omitted
(not available to select and apparently is not included by default either)
from both the Linux and Windows DB2 10.5 Express-C install.
I can't find this mentioned as a conscious choice in the DB2 10.5 docs.
Any ideas what might have happened?
Windows log file:Property(C): CONFIGURE_TEXT_SEARCH = 1Property(C): p_enableTextSearch = 0Property(C): p_textSearchBackFlag = HealthMonitor_noEx
Property(C): p_TextSearchPortNumber = ___NotSet___Property(C): PROP_RSP_DB2.TEXT_SEARCH_HTTP_PORT_NUMBER = ___NotSet___Property(C): p_TextSearchServiceName = ___NotSet___
Property(C): PROP_RSP_DB2.TEXT_SEARCH_HTTP_SERVICE_NAME = ___NotSet___Property(C): DEFAULT_TEXT_SEARCH_SERVICE_NAME = db2j_DB2Property(C): DEFAULT_TEXT_SEARCH_SERVICE_PORT = 55000
Linux log does not mention anything at all

I've alredy installed DB2 Express-C 10.5.fp1 on Ubuntu 64bit and find / -name 'db2ts' returns empty.
Can anyone provide db2 10.1 or any with db2ts (the invaluable IBM TEXT SEARCH) for Linux 64 bit?

On Express C download page, there is v10.5fp1_winx64_expc.exe, and another for win32.
v10.5fp1_winx64_expc.exe - is this FP1 or full version of 10.5? In Set Up Wizard, there is no "install new" button, only "work with existing".
Where can I find the full version so taht I can install 10.5 as a new install, co-existing with my other DB2 copies?

Is it possible for IBM to provide the 32 bit 10.1 version of Express-C since the 10.5 version doesn't install on XP? I understand that there will no longer be support for XP, but is there any reason not to have previous versions available for download?

Piggybacking off this comment, I am looking for a Windows Version of v10.1 that can be used with RAD v9.0?
There seems to be no support in v10.5 for JPA. At least the Wizards fore Managed Beans fail to work on DB2 Express-C v10.5 or v10.5 fp1.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Re: Download DB2 Express-C 10.5 then problems with data studio 4.1.12014-11-21T04:12:25Z in response to LeoPetraz
Hi I have been a fan of IBM DB2. Got certified up to 730, and have been teaching IBM DB2 since 2011 (students use win 32 or 64 bit up to win 8.1 and Mac), everything fine.
I even could install a web based php with IBM DB2 10.5.1 (on win 8.1 as server) with data studio 3.2 in a friend's small school - never have any problems.
BUT recently I tried using data studio 4.1.1 - I have problems - in students' laptop the data studio icon did not come up - with new installs.
I use win 7 enterprise, IBM DB2 xpress C 10.5.1 64 bit, and data studio 3.2 - but am afraid in upgrading to 4.1.1. Anyone can share their success stories ?
Much appreciate your inputs

Attached my computers properties and db2 launchpad screen snapshot.
Anyone faced this issue and has any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi, just to update ..it is working now. It seems there cannot be a space in the name of any directory where setup.exe is present. For me it was My Stuff, which i renamed to MyStuff. All ok now!
