I've never heard of this term and a Google search finds nothing.

I suggest you ask for details, examples and documentation.

    Good luck,
    Opher

Maybe you are talking about "reporting traps", e.g. transitive relationship which resembles a wheel shape.

Take a look at this (slide 13)

Ron - Maybe you can answer a question for me: After looking at those slides, it reminds me that the path from any Dimension table through the Fact table and to another Dimension table is in all aspects a "fan trap". So why isn't that a problem?

I get asked that periodically and never have a good answer.

    Thanks,
    Opher

    Hi Opher,

I only know this from theory and have never come across this in my daily work. This is covered in the official Framework Manager training. The example covered there is assuming a table that has two one-to-many relationships. The trap would occur only if there is a direct relationship between the branch and employee table. In your case this would mean a direct relationship between both dimensions which is certainly not the case. Having a proper star schema would always avoid such kind of traps.

    Hope that helps.

    Ron
