Pinned topic How to create "services" or common functionality to portlets developed with WEF deployed to WP

‏2013-09-25T22:13:15Z |

Hello forum!

We've been developing the start of a new information system with WEF and deployment to WP, in the near future we will interact with BPM/ODM (hopefully with BPM coaches/processes as portlets). So far, we've developed 6 portlets in WEF each solving a specific story/problem.

The portlets are deployed and now we are looking to:

  1.  Create a common place for user guides (like an info-center) but with an specific help link that points straight to the portion of the user guide that refers to the specific portlet.
Is there a way to do this with the WEF Porltlet adapter builder, we see the option but is simply a link... how do you enable that link once you deploy it in portal? we don't see like a common "portlet utility toolbar" in each portlet (like the ones we see here at developerworks).
Is there a tool to create "info-centers" other that WCM?
  2. We need to show in each portlet if the portlet "complies" or "enforces" an specific quality standard (ISO 2001, IEEExxx, etc), so we need to provide a common way for all portlets to show this information.... what would be the "techincally correct" way to implement this?

Thanks so much for any information that could shed light in our path!

Best,

Nicolas E.

    Hello myself!!

    Your answers:

1.) Once you've deployed your portlets to the portal you need to edit the page appearance via the "Edit page layout" button in the administration section of the portal. This way you can enable the standard theme that provides customization options such as help and rating. For more info look here.

For the help system you can use a wiki page for "live" documentation of each portlet with a product such as IBM Connections. (What's used for all portal products documentation).

2.) To provide this type of search you can look into portlet services via the Java API or the portlet wiring options to manage communication between portlets for content such as standards, etc.

    Best,
