Pinned topic Tomcat monitoring with the J2EE agent

‏2013-06-11T15:20:33Z |

Hello,

I'm trying to setup ITCAM for J2EE in order to monitor Tomcat but I've run into a couple of issues. Please help me with these ones because I couldn't find  many resources about J2EE Monitoring Agent & Tomcat.

I've installed:

1. apache-tomcat-6.0.37

2. On the server I want to monitor:

yj      Monitoring Agent for J2EE
         lx8266  Version: 06.20.06.00 (06.20.04.00 + FP5 + FP6)

3. Data Collector 6.1.0.4 for Tomcat (IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for J2EE V6.1.0.4: Data Collector Tomcat Linux for System x 86Series) + FP5 + FP6:

cat ./itcamdc/etc/version.properties
probe.release.version=6.1
probe.ptf.version=6
probe.patch.level=
probe.build.level=20110617_FP6
probe.build.date=11/13/2011 19:36:22 PST

4. on the TEPS I've installed support for the Monitoring Agent for J2EE:

yj      Monitoring Agent for J2EE
         tms     Version: 06.20.06.00
         tps     Version: 06.20.06.00
         tpw     Version: 06.20.06.00

I have two problems:

I. When I'm configuring the Data Collector, the only stuff that's added inside catalina.sh is:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/IBM/tivoli/itcam/J2EE/DC/toolkit/lib/linux-ix86:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

I've also tried to use the tags indicated in the installation manual for the custom start up scripts but with no results.

Is this normal? Isn't the DC configuration utility supposed to specify also a binary  inside catalina.sh for DC to start?

II. Right now in TEPS all I'm not seeing any attribute groups for the agent. Is this indicating that there is a problem between TEMA and TEPS (TEMA support) or I'm getting this because of the problem described above (I.)?

Cheers,

Florin

    Your portal is a 6.3 right? you need to upgrade the TEMA to FP6 IF5 to resolve a compatibility problem with ITM 6.3

    6.2.0.6-TIV-ITCAM_J2EE_TEMA-IF0005
    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24035293

    And I think you missed a few things in DC configuration.
