Pinned topic Convert 2 V7000s into a Hyperswap pair

‏2019-10-07T15:39:53Z | hyperswap v7000

Hello All,

I have a customer with two V7000s using Metro Mirror, replicating over Fibre Channel between rooms on their site.

They wish to move into Hyperswap to achieve better availability. They have enough extra SAN fabric ports to cable all 4 fibre ports into the SAN fabric in order to isolate host IO and Hyperswap IO.

I am pretty sure that the work involves temporarily losing DR while Hyperswap is being configured.

However, I am unclear as to what state I need to return the DR V7000 so it can be added in to the Live V7000 using 'Add Enclosure'. Do I have to delete all Volumes, Hosts and Mdisks on the current DR V7000 before it can be added in as site2 clustered with the Live V7000?

I am comfortable with having to recreate Volumes, but it will add extra time to the plan if I have to delete the entire Mdisks and then recreate after the enclosure has been added into the cluster with Live.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

If you've already have two independent Storwize systems then there is no method to merge two existing Storwize systems into a single Clustered system.
So you cannot keep the vdisks, hosts, etc on DR V7000.

Thanks for your info.   Can you confirm whether I will have to delete the mdisk and mdiskgrp as part of the work, then recreate the mdiskgrp and mdisk when it has been clustered into the Live V7000?

I'm just trying to get a better idea about the length of time this process will take.

    Much appreciated.

vdisks, pools etc are part of a cluster configuration. You cannot import configuration items from another cluster.
I'm not sure if you first have to remove everything from the DR V7k before you expand the cluster.
