‏2013-10-08T16:35:46Z |

Hello All,

I am facing issues in upgrading the platform firmware using System Director 6.3.3. Do we have procedure for updating the firmware of a power machine running AIX box. I am trying to upgrade through the AIX client.

I have added the firmware to the update manager. When I try to run the updates against my client, it pick up the new firmware for upgrdation. However fails with an error. Please see the error logs below.

Let me know if anyone has a similar issue and what would be the solution.

The problem is not with IBM Systems Director, it has to do with where you are trying to do the system firmware upgrade:

October 8, 2013 5:05:10 PM BST-Level:75-MEID:0--MSG: DNZPFW084E The current system do not have authority to update System Firmware with update_flash command. Please use command update_flash -s to confirm the authority on agent.

If this is an HMC-managed server, then the firmware should be applied to the Host object and it will be staged and installed via the HMC.

If this is an IVM-managed server, then the firmware should be applied to the Host object and it will be staged and installed via the IVM LPAR.

It looks like you tried to apply the system firmware upgrade to an OS object for a given LPAR (cloudclient1.bcunix.com).  And since this system is enterprise class (9117-MMB or 9179-MHB), it's managed by an HMC.  So you should use the target of the physical server (Host) for this task.
