Pinned topic LINK vs CALL

‏2014-02-07T09:13:28Z |

Hi,

is the (performance) difference between a CICS LINK and a PL/1 CALL still valid in the actual CICS versions?

I did find some 'old' discussions

http://ibmmainframes.com/about2571.html

http://thecicsguy.wordpress.com/2009/03/29/call-or-link/

but there are only references to COBOL.

Can someone clarify the pro's and con's ?

Thank you

Gie

The presentation "LE Performance Tips and Techniques -  COBOL and PL/I issues" http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27001515&aid=1 gives some advice and performance figures on page 11, although things may have changed since 2002!

The pros for the LINK command:

    1. Can be routed to another CICS region
    2. Target program can be written in Java
    3. Storage from target program is automatically cleaned up after use
