Pinned topic Set CLEARCASE_PRIMARY_GROUP in CM Server

https://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/cchelp/v7r1m0/topic/com.ibm.rational.clearcase.ccrc.help.doc/topics/t_ccperspective_configuregrps.htm

"The Use default setting indicates that the current primary group setting on the server is in effect when you connect to a ClearCase Web Server. "

For the CC fat client, we set CLEARCASE_PRIMARY_GROUP in our User Environment Variable in developer's local PC (developers are also part of domain group ccusers).

To use CCRC, do we need to set this, and where should I set this variable? Our CCRC users are not part of our domain at all. In the above link, what does "the current primary group setting on the server" referring to? Who's setting?

Thanks

Jirong

    Jirong,

With CCRC, the web server will have a variable where an admin can set a default primary group. Where you set this depends on the ClearCase version. In CC 7.1.x the CM Server this is set as a mbean called ccrcPrimaryGroup:

    https://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/cchelp/v7r1m0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.rational.clearcase.cc_admin.doc/topics/cm_server/admin_console.htm

In CC 8 WAN Server this was moved to the server.conf file which is a bit easier to use.

    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21514940

If the variable is not set, or if a user wishes to override the server variable, the primary group can be set explicitly on the Eclipse/CCRC/CTE client.

I'm not sure what you mean by "CCRC users are not part of our domain". They will need a valid account on the web server to login with a remote client. If the web server is in a domain they will need an account that will authenticate in that domain.
