Pinned topic Not able to install IBM Business Process Manger standard 8.0.1

‏2013-09-12T09:59:50Z |

Hi,

I am trying to install IBM Business Process Manger standard 8.0.1 on a virtual machine rhel 6.3 x86_64 with 40 GB HDD and 10 GB RAM.

but it fails with error "instance password is required"

I am doing typical installation of Process Center with a new DB2 Express database server

steps followed:

  1. Run launchpad.sh script
  2. Select typical installation
  3. Select  process center
  4. Now I am passing user: root (root user of Rhel) and corresponding password. Am I passing correct user?
  5. I passed dummy values for DB2 instance user, DB2 fenced user, DB2 administration server (DAS) user. What values shall I pass? Do I have to create any user accounts for these three users?
  6. After clicking on install, installation proceeds to 30% but fails with error "instance password is required".

Please help ASAP

    Hi Ankit,

to install SCO envirnment you should follow the process at: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v48r1/topic/com.ibm.sco.doc_2.2/t_install_sco.html and especially the process for installing kernelservices at: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v48r1/topic/com.ibm.sco.doc_2.2/t_install_kernel.html.

The second link describes the installation of BPM and DB2 server. So both installations are done via SCO scripts under the cover and you don't have to deal with BPM standalone and DB2 Express installation in separate or manually steps what was your initial problem here.

I want kindly refer you to follow the process at the SCO infocenter, other installation processes are not supported.

For more questions and problems, please state it here. Best regards Birgit H.

Ankit, please cleanup your env and delete the VMs that you need to reinstall.

Hello, could you please clarify whether you are following the SmartCloud Orchestrator installation documentation?

    Hi Thomas,

I am following documentation at http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/dmndhelp/v8r0mx/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.wbpm.main.doc%2Fic-homepage-bpm.html to install IBM Business process manager standard v8.0.1 standalone.

Actually first i tried to install IBM SmartCloud Orchestrator. And i was able to install Firstbox (VM:Kersrv-1, VM:Kersrv-2, VM:db2srv) successfully but VM:Kersrv-3 i.e Business process manager failed to install.

So, now i am trying to install IBM Business process manager standard v8.0.1 standalone on a different machine for POC. But now i have successfully installed "IBM Websphere Application server Network deployement v8.0", "BPM standard 8.0" via Installation manager but installation of DB2 server failed.

    Log file "/opt/ibm/BPM/v8.0.1/logs/db2install.log"  output

DB2 Setup log file started at:  Tue Sep 17 21:05:15 2013 PDT
    ============================================================

Operating system information: Linux 2.6.32-279.el6.x86_64.#1 SMP Wed Jun 13 18:24:36 EDT 2012 x86_64

with this log i am not able to identify why DB2 server installation is failing.

    Regards,

    Ankit
