Pinned topic Converting Single byte english charcters to Double byte

‏2013-06-20T02:52:02Z |

We have a requirement where in we have to convert chinese characters in UTF-8 format to Mainframe format. We are using IBM-937 which is the EBCDIC code page for tradtional chinese.Conversion works fine. However If there are any english characters in a chinese field we have to convert them to double byte format which is not happening. English characters are being represented in single byte only.

Please help how this can be achieved in WTX.

If an output field should be of a different type (1 byte vs. 2 byte) depending on the input, I guess your best choice is to use partitioned fields in the typetree. So one of your partitioned fields is IBM-937 and the other one is UTF-16 (I guess that's what you mean by "double byte format").

    Hello,

I am also working on Character conversion process. Could you please help me find a source to get information on below relationships:

Code page (EBCDIC) vs Code set (IBM-937) - Character set (Kanji/Umlaut) - Language (English/Chinese/Japanese/Korean)

    Thanks,
