‏2013-06-18T12:24:55Z |

Dear Team ,

i have bladeCenter S with tow SAS module installed  on IO3 and IO4 and i have the below warning message on the blade management "" I/O Module 4 requires user attention"" logging useing the CLI console getting the below result from get-alert command :

|AlertCode|  Id  |       Time        | SlotID |  Severity   |          WWN         |  Ackable  |   MaskState   |
|    4300 |   11 |    20130618141100 |      1 |     Warning |     5005076b0757a37f |         0 |      Unmasked |

| Msg: Unsupported drive 01:05 detected                                                                        |
|    5710 |    4 |    20130618100721 |      0 |     Warning |     5005076b0757a37f |         0 |        Masked |
|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| Msg: Redundant drive group DiskPool missing spare                                                            |

what i did to work on this issue is :

1. remove and re-insert the SAS Module

2.firmware update

also when remove one of the SAS module i am getting this attention to the other SAN module and vise versa.

any idea .

Did you try nonconcurrent firmware update so that it was also update the drives?.

grab the readme for the firmware update and follow the steps to flash in non-concurrent mode.  This is the only way to ensure that the hard drive firmware gets updated correctly.  It requires and you put the raid modules into service mode.

Pay close attention to your current firmware and the level you want to upgrade to. You may have to do it in stages as the older firmwares cannot jump start to the latest version.

Also, out of interest how new are the HDD's you are using. I have a suspicion that the RSSM may report errors with drives that have newer firmwares than it recognises. This is just a suspicion as I do not have access to hardware to verify this. I have asked development but never received a response.

Have a read of the newly released redbook Implementing the IBM BladeCenter S Chassis. This may help you. It can be downloaded from here.
