RAD 9.6.1 (Java 8) on Windows

Maven is the current culprit, but I'm betting this is Eclipse-wide/Java-wide. RAD errors showing this, on the project and pom.xml:

        pom.xml /Mail   line 1  Maven Dependency Problem

Or, when I run Maven from inside RAD, this:

[ERROR] Failed to execute goal on project Mail: Could not resolve dependencies for project com.ibm.gs.houston:Mail:adapter:1.0-SNAPSHOT: Failed to collect dependencies at com.itextpdf:itext-licensekey:jar:2.0.3: Failed to read artifact descriptor for com.itextpdf:itext-licensekey:jar:2.0.3: Could not transfer artifact com.itextpdf:itext-licensekey:pom:2.0.3 from/to iText (https://repo.itextsupport.com/releases): No appropriate protocol, may be no appropriate cipher suite specified or protocols are deactivated -> [Help 1]

It's not just this site, but I think any site that no longer supports SSLv3. I've seen this in WebSphere too, when it had a setting to "SSL_TLS", which apparently doesn't do TLS 1.1 or 1.2. Finding what I hoped was the right RAD property file to address that setting, didn't seem to make any difference.

I had an error message at some point that even pointed to the directory where java.security was being used from. But that message seems to have disappeared since I manually copied my Maven repository over from my old machine. I tried editing the property that I thought might change the settings for that JRE (com.ibm.ssl.protocol in ssl.client.props), but it did not. And I can no longer get that more detailed error message either. (Which could just be my inexperience with Maven.)

    Ahhh, it wasn't from an error message that I had gotten the whole path of the JRE where I thought I might need to make the changes, it was from the Eclipse configuration details. Where I see:

    com.ibm.SSL.ConfigURL=file:C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP/runtimes/base_stub/properties/ssl.client.props

    But changing settings there hasn't helped.

    Tried asking on StackOverflow, no luck there either. And now seeing another Maven/https problem as well:

    I can't be the only person trying to use Maven under RAD 9.6.1, can I? Maybe I try DW Answers now..

    This appears to be an Eclipse bug that isn't fixed until a later version than what RAD currently uses:

    https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=515859

    Also see StackOverflow or DW Answers for any further updates.

    The other option is to revert back to a previous version of JDK.  In my case, I used jdk 1.7.0_75 and I was able to successfully  build a Maven Project on RAD 9.6.1
