Pinned topic How To Reliably Detect Master VIO from HMC

‏2014-07-03T20:13:52Z |

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how I can reliably tell which VIO in a dual (failover) VIO environment is that master VIO using an HMC or VIO command?

Thanks,
Jonathan

there is no such thing like a "master vio". if you use SEA failover, each of your SEA's trunk adapters employs a priority, (hopefully) different from the partner SEA's priority e.g.. So multiple SEAs can bridge their traffic through different VIOs just for example. NIB network and  vscsi  let each vio client decide which1 of 2 redundant vios to prefer. vfc lets the vio client's multipath sw decide which vios (typically both) to direct traffic to.

If you want to find out about state of SEA or any other vio device I suggest you use vio cli (either via ssh padmin@vio or user@hmc viosrvcmd).
