Pinned topic DS3512 as shared DAS

‏2013-08-23T22:58:30Z |

Hello,

We are currently connecting our DS3512 with single controller to a single Power 730 host using FC-P2P.  In reviewing the docs, it sounds like we could also use the two SAS "IN" ports to connect two more hosts.  But can anyone confirm that we could then present a particular LUN to those two new hosts?  We would like to put a clustered file system such as GPFS on the LUN, and mount from both hosts simultaneously.

Thanks!

Yes, you can share a LUN between multiple hosts.

This includes both SAS, iSCSI and FC. (you can even have a shared LUN that can be seen by both FC and SAS hosts if you like)

Just curious, why did you choose a single controller version? I've playing around with about 30 of these at different customers, and never seen a single controller version!

Thanks very much Anders.  To answer your question, I'm not sure why a single-controller version was purchased, except maybe to save costs.  The machine does not store production data, it is used to test software builds on AIX.  However we may add another controller at some point.
