Pinned topic IBM servers monitoring via HP SIM

‏2013-08-13T19:59:31Z |

Dear All,

We have a mix environment of IBM & HP servers

It was decided that HP SIM (HP Systems Insight Manger) will be used for hardware monitoring (as % of HP servers is high here)

Could you please help to find a doc./link/guide on how to monitor IBM servers via HP SIM

There is NO doc. available on IBM site to manage IBM servers with a third party tool like HP SIM

Any help would be most appreciated!

Thanks!!

You can't find such a document, most likely because one does not exist.

If you just want monitoring, IBM Systems support the SNMP standard, so you could use that to forward traps to HP SIM.

Alternatively, IBM Systems Director (ISD) can forward SNMP traps to HP SIM.

Did you say, just forward SNMP traps (i.e. Install SNMP service & set Community Name & Trap Destination)?

Nothing else (like ISD agent etc.) is required on IBM server end & on HP SIM end (like IBM MIBs etc.)?

    Regards

Well, it depends on what you will use.  If you don't have ISD installed at the moment, then you could monitor IBM hardware using Management Processors (out of band), such as iMM.  This can forward SNMP traps to whatever destination.  You may well need MIBs which you can find in the firmware packages for iMM, I believe.

Alternatively, if you're already using ISD (in band), then of course, having management agents will give you a richer feed into HP SIM; you'd set-up an Automation Plan to forward SNMP traps to achieve this, filtering out those that are not important.  For this, you may well need the full compliment of IBM MIBs, which are located within the installation of ISD itself - just search for *.mib in the location where you installed ISD.
