Pinned topic Do you know why my x3650 M4-7915 will not let me RAID 5 3 x 1TB HDD's

‏2013-10-04T19:11:03Z |

Hi, Do you know why my x3650 M4-7915 will not let me RAID 5 3 x 1TB HDD's? Both the Svr Guide and BIOS will only let me RAID 0 or RAID them. I have look all over the web and the IBM website and cannot find any explanation. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated. Phil (Msg sent on twitter as Shambleclown as well)

If you have a standard X3650 M4 it means it comes with the onboard M5110e controller which allows RAID 0/1/10 only: these are the entry-level controllers, for RAID 5 you need to upgrade on a feature-by-feature basis or get a second full-featured controller. If you have the onboard controller and still plan to upgrade to RAID 5 with the hardware key BE ADVISED that any controller lacking onboard memory is slow, and I mean SLOW at RAID 5 specially when you are planning to use TB-range drives (think days rebuilding an array if something goes wrong). I think you have such a controller, otherwise let me know which one and we'll investigate further.

    Dear Puneet,

as you already know it means that one sever with optional RAID 5 license and one without it. Just buy amd install optional RAID 5 license to the 2nd server. See details on the product guide:
