Good question, Joe.  Thanks for asking.

Red Hat does not presently offer the Red Hat Network Satellite product on Power Linux.  This means the server does cannot run on Power systems.  HOWEVER, it should be noted that PowerLinux and Power System servers running Linux can be managed by a Red Hat Satellite server on another platform.

Bottomline: we can be managed, we cannot do the management.

Latest version of RedHat Network Satellite 5.6 is using PostgreSQL, not Oracle as it used to. It should make it usable with PowerLinux, right ?

      My two questions :

      - is PowerLinux supported as a RHEL Network Satellite server now ? Documentation is unclear.

      - did someone experimented installation of linux on Power server with Network Satellite ?

      Thanks !

Red Hat Satellite server can manage RHEL on Power systems.  RSN does not run on Power systems, however.

If you have a business need, I can put you in touch with the Red Hat folks to formally request RSN on Power.  Please feel free to drop me an email.  However, I must confess that I am personally comfortable with being manageable in RSN as very few enterprises are purely Power.

Try Fedora Spacewalk. It is the upstream open source product behind Satellite, has more features, and Source RPMs available for you to compile. May just work on ppc64!

Druv, excellent suggestion!  Have you used Spacewalk in lieu of RH Satellite before?

Joe, let us know if this works for you so that the next person knows if this was a good suggestion or not!

Yes, in fact that is what we use all the time now. You won't find anything missing and with a tool called 'reposync', you can sync the RHN repositories as well.
