Pinned topic DB down situations

‏2013-12-21T19:02:11Z |

HI all,

I would like to know the DB state when the below situation occurs.

1.What will happen if the DB goes down while tablespace rebalance is in progress.

2.Running the tablespace rebalance for multiple tablespaces which are big in size will have any impact on system performance

3.What will happe if DB goes down while online -full/incremental backup is i progress?

4.What actions needs to be take to bring back the DB in to business if automatic crash recovery fail to start.

    Hi,

you can always try to test this scenarios on your test system - could be your laptop with DB2 Express-C:

    1. DB2 will recover after restart. Tablespace should be OKay.

    2. It does affect your performance. AFAIK you can handle the performance by throtling so called utilities in DB2 by assigning a priority ( I think default is 10%).

    3. DB would be OKay and backup will not finish. You would need to restart it

    4. Call IBM support. If it is production database you will get 24/7 fast support (if you have support and subscription).

    Hi,

due to 1. As Duro described DB2 will recover after restart. Rebalance will automatically restart at this point it was when the DB went down. Rebalance will then finish successfully.

    Best regards,

    Gerhard
