DS3512 unresponsive when Hdd installed

hi team,

Kindly advice.

The model of storage is DS 3512 and MT:1746, SN: 1S1746C2A13D1R89, with latest firmware (Firmware details and storage health support data attached)

The moment I plug in any single or all HDD, the storage becomes un-responsive, I cannot ping any of the storage controllers. But the moment I remove all HDD and restart the controllers storage shows optimal, screen shot attached

Also when I try to synchronize the controller clocks or set password it shows the error

When I connect to the storage using ds storage manager and try to rename the storage

Pls suggest

regards

Ahmar

Looks like you've cabled the expansion wrong.

You got 2 SAS drive interface ports on each controller with a Link. Thats not a possible configuration. You can only use 1 of them.

    Each controller shows:

          Drive interface:        SAS
             Channel:             1
             Port: {0}            1
             {0}    revision {1}  LSISAS2116    revision 218,119,936
                Status:           Up
             Maximum data rate:   6 Gbps
             Current data rate:   6 Gbps

          Drive interface:        SAS
             Channel:             2
             Port: {0}            2
             {0}    revision {1}  LSISAS2116    revision 218,119,936
                Status:           Up
             Maximum data rate:   6 Gbps
             Current data rate:   6 Gbps

Compare your cabling with the manual/redbook, and I'm sure you'll find that you got something terrible wrong.

    Dear Anders,

Thanks for your inputs. But how come that makes the storage subsystem unresponsive. And how do you see the inserting of the harddrives in the storage causing the storage fault led lit?

THIS is a fresh installation and yet to be configured storage and has started giving errors.

I am not sure if any host to storage cabling is done yet.

    regards

If for example there is a loop on the SAS drive ports, I wouldnt be surprised if the system would freeze up, when you insert a disk.

This has nothing to do with hosts attached to the storage system. Its the ports used for expansion enclosures we are talking about.

But without knowing the exact configuration and cabling, its impossible for me to give any exact explanation!
