I am using RSA 8.
Is there a way to open the cobol program / copybook in an editor (say, cobol editor ) within RSA ?Also, is there a way to disable the cobol copybook / cobol program validation in RSA ?

I do not think so. It is important to have validation so that it will not cause
    potential runtime errors.

No, there is no such option. The COBOL program or copybook should be error free. If the source is in the workspace, you should see any syntax errors in the data stuctures in the Problems view. The following link should provide you some help: How to resolve COBOL importer errors
