Pinned topic RHEL6.3 install failure on HS22

‏2013-04-05T13:43:49Z |
Hi all,

I'm trying to deploy RHEL 6.3 onto an IBM HS22 and get a failure of: "Unable to retrieve <URL stuff here>/images/install.img".
I can deploy RHEL 5 / SLES 10 etc onto the client. I can also deploy the RHEL 6.3 onto other hardware types successfully.

Anybody know of a 'gotcha' that I'm missing?

I'm running TPMfOSd 7.1.1.11 (build 190.17)

    Hi,

sorry for the long delay but there were updates on this website.

Which kind of Linux deployment are you performing ? Setup or cloned ? Http-based or not ?

(I would understand if our Linux Deloyment engine starts on the target and prepare files or we just chainloa anaconda installer after target pxeboot)

When you get the error into anaconda, would you please alt+Fn and change terminals and collect more information about the problem on the other terminals? (also screenshot to attach if you agree)

If non HTTP-based deployment, may it be you just need to change the "Device name mapping" from hda to sda or sda to hda...

    thanks

    Francesco

      Hey Francesco,

      Thanks for replying!

I'm running an http based 'bare-metal' install ( from profile ). I've attached a screenshot of the console at the time the deployment fails.

I'm just re-spinning another attempt on the system so can provide logs when it gets to the failure!

      Thanks again for your reply!

      Dave.

        Yes please,

        I would please ask you

1- screenshots of error on other console (ALT+FN...)

2- activity logs (remember to set server at debug level4)

        thanks

        Francesco

So, I've tried switching to the other console but my keyboard input is not being accepted at all. ( even from the console attached to the Blade Center )

I've attached the debug data below

          Cheers,

          Dave.

            Hi,

I think the problem is that you are using the Advanced IP settings and the NIC connected to the TPMfOSd server is not eth0 as default.

If you check traces your target is started using the NIC which did the PXEboot

            bom.trc:

args:  ksdevice=5C:F3:FC:1B:3A:84 ks=http://9.20.60.91:8080/x86lnx/task685172353/bom1881/ks.cfg nousbBoot on hard disk (0,0)

            --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

but in http.trc I saw this target has 3 NICs

            [2013/04/26 10:09:12] <DEB> (90a) [9.20.47.21:43704] Header info: [X-RHN-Provisioning-MAC-0: eth0 00:1B:21:7B:3C:9C]
            [2013/04/26 10:09:12] <DEB> (90a) [9.20.47.21:43704] Header info: [X-RHN-Provisioning-MAC-1: eth1 00:1B:21:7B:3C:9D]
            [2013/04/26 10:09:12] <DEB> (90a) [9.20.47.21:43704] Header info: [X-RHN-Provisioning-MAC-2: eth2 5C:F3:FC:1B:3A:84]
            ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and the good one is eth2, while in ks.cfg we have eth0 by default

            network --device eth0 --bootproto static --ip 9.20.47.21 --netmask 255.255.255.0 --gateway 9.20.47.1 --nameserver 9.20.136.11 --hostname=twix0111.hursley.ibm.com

            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So your target is trying to contact the server using eht0 which has a wrong MAC and probably is disconnected

Probably, from Web UI -> Target Monitor -> Advanced IP settings -> set the right Connection Name to eth2 should fix this behaviour.

may you try this please ?

Anyway we are internally working on improving this behaviour....

            Thanks

            Francesco

Thanks Francesco, that does indeed seem to be the issue!

I've switched the target to use 'Common networking info' rather than advanced and it no longer stalls at the point of downloading install.img as before! I just need to figure out how to set the target up in this way ( I'm using a java script that does it automatically ( via the API ) when we request an OS deployment on the target! ).

You mention that the behavior described is being 'worked on'....would it be possible for you keep me informed as to the progress made or an indication when any 'fix' might be made available?

Thanks for all your help on this, much appreciated!
