I somehow seem to be able to trigger intermittent node lockups
by deleting snapshots. So far, the crashes seem to affect filesystem
managers, only. Any ideas ? (this is on Linux)

In order to persue problems with deadlocks & crashes you need to open a PMR describing the problem. Level 2 support personal will help you in collecting debug data for further diagnosis.
