Pinned topic Doing DB2 Restore operation from USB flash drive gives SQL2538N error

‏2013-03-28T11:52:48Z |
Steps:
1. Take a backup of DB2 9.5 (x86) on one PC
2. Copy backup image file to USB flash drive
3. On different PC execute db2 restore command by refrring USB flash drive contained image

Observation: SQL2538N error As per that error code: Unexpected End of File of Backup Image reached on media media. is displayed.
  • Interestingly when i copy this image file to local hard disk then restore operation becomes successful.

Question:
  • Is DB2 supports restore operation from USB flash drive or not?
>> If yes then will any specific care needs to be taken while restoring from flash drive?
>> If no then are there any references exist in IBM docs

You have made sure to properly disconnect (remove) the USB drive from Windows to make sure all write IO completed successfully?

Sorry, this is assuming Windows on x86 :-)

Same problem happens on Windows 7(Both x86 & x64). Also confirmed same problem exist across diff USB and diff PC.
    • Also confirmed that USB is properly connected and recognized by respective windows OS. And other manual copy/paste/over-write to/from USB are working fine.
    • Also since DB2 backup operation directly to USB is working fine. Hence i suspect no normal IO operations problem exist.

Now i am struck up with a surprising belief that DB2 is not supported restore operation from USB Though no such db2 document that explicitly tells exist.
    • Did any other persons faced similar issue? If yes please shared how it is resolved?
