Pinned topic SLES 11 SP2 kernal supporeted clearcase version 7.1.2.9

‏2013-03-27T13:18:51Z |
Hello,

I am struggling to install ClearCase latest version 7.1.2.9 on SLESS 11 SP2 Linux machine.

Could anyone please help to overcome this error. After complete installation I am getting the fallowing error .i restarted the machine after completing the installtion

ClearCase daemons: albd_server MVFS kernel module could not be found(8:1)
The ClearCase mvfs file system will not be loaded.

I tried to rebuild the mvfs kernel but I count succeeded.

Any one faced same issue?
Is SLESS11 SP2 kernel (3.0.13-0.27-default) version is supported to ClearCase 7.1.2.9?

Please help to come out from this issue.

Thanks in advance..

Your kernel version -- 3.0.13-0.27-default -- is not listed as an SP2 kernel.

When I look at the Novell Wiki at http://wiki.novell.com/index.php/Kernel_versions , I see this:
    SLES11 SP2
    SP2-Feb-2012 3.0.13-0.27.1
    Apr-23-2012 3.0.26-0.7.6
    Jun-01-2012 3.0.31-0.9.1
    Jun-25-2012 3.0.34-0.7.9
    Aug-21-2012 3.0.38-0.5.1
    Oct-15-2012 3.0.42-0.7.3
    Dec-19-2012 3.0.51-0.7.9.1
    Feb-07-2013 3.0.58-0.6.2.1
    Feb-25-2013 3.0.58-0.6.6.1

So, can you please check which exact kernel version you're using? Do you have kernel headers, etc., installed?

Finally, what is the error message you get on building the MVFS?

i am using flowing kernel version of SUSE11-SP2

    ##cat /proc/version
    Linux version 3.0.13-0.27-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.3.4 gcc-4_3-branch revision 152973 (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP Wed Feb 15 13:33:49 UTC 2012 (d73692b)

BTW I am getting the fallowing error after installing the ClearCase on SUSE 11 SP2 version.

when i tried to stop and start the ClearCase its showing the fallowing error.

    ##/etc/init.d/ClearCase start
    ClearCase is stopped
    Starting ClearCase
ClearCase daemons: albd_server MVFS kernel module could not be found(8:1)

There should be README file here:
    /var/adm/rational/clearcase/mvfs/mvfs_src/README.txt

Follow that README file to rebuild the MVFS.

When you attempt to rebuild the MultiVersion File System (MVFS), is an error thrown? If so, what is it.

Will, I'm paraphrasing your email update since the linkage between the mailing list and the forum is pretty much one-way...

"On first glance it would appear that you do not have gcc installed on your system. Without the compiler and related tools, it will be impossible for you to recompile your mvfs module. You will probably also need to install the kernel-devel rpm package on your system so that you will have the kernel headers that you need to compile the mvfs module."
