This error occurs when the BigSheets back-end derby database is inaccessible, usually because the derby server has been shut down. Can you please verify that the derby network server has been started? If you ssh into the web console server you can start the derby service via the command: start.sh derby. You can also try to inspect why the derby server may have stopped unexpectedly by looking at derby's log file at /var/ibm/biginsights/derby/derby.log

in V3.0 to enable bigsheets, start "catalog"

    $BIGINSIGHTS_HOME/bin/start.sh hadoop console catalog
