trying a mmbackup that is based on snapshots failes due to
  • imho a false positive - , as gpfs is online on that particular node:

DEBUGtsbackup33: policy0: /usr/lpp/mmfs/bin/tsapolicy: symbol lookup error: /usr/lpp/mmfs/bin/tsapolicy: undefined symbol: gpfs_lib_init   DEBUGtsbackup33: policy0: mmapplypolicy: GPFS is down on

this node.

    Maybe you've been bitten by the not-too-bright-idea of having two libgpfs.so files (with completely different content):

    $ rpm -ql TIVsm-API-6.1.4-0 | grep libgpfs
    /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin/libgpfs.so
    $ nm /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin/libgpfs.so | grep gpfs_lib_init
    $

    $ rpm -ql gpfs.base | grep libgpfs
    /usr/lpp/mmfs/lib/i386/libgpfs.so
    /usr/lpp/mmfs/lib/libgpfs.so
    $ nm /usr/lpp/mmfs/lib/libgpfs.so | grep gpfs_lib_init
    0000000000002e10 T gpfs_lib_init
    $

    It's a bad idea to have, for example, gpfs commands attempting to use the tsm-variant...
