Pinned topic an error occurred configuring connect:direct databases

‏2013-03-15T16:30:36Z |
I am trying to now install C:D with a different user ID. But this ID seems not to have rights to write to the masterDB, although the account is in the local administrators group? Any ideas of what to look for and where to configure permissions?

Full error msg:

An error occurred configuring connect:direct databases. Error: database not created. Device may not have been created properly. Check SQL server log for further info. CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database master.

You need to grant permission to your user ID for the database. How to do this depends on the the type of the database you have.

In case of MS SQL, the easiest way is to install the SQL Server Management Studio (GUI) from Microsoft. Logon with the installer ID and add your user ID.
There is a command line tool sqlcmd.exe installed with MS SQL, too (if you are familiar with SQL).

The default installation of MS SQL EE only grants permission to the installer ID. This also applies when you installed MS SQL EE from the C:D Windows 4.4.01 or 4.5.01 media. Best practice is to install MS SQL and C:D Windows both from the same user ID.

Found this in the 4.4.01/4.5.01 release notes:

Microsoft SQL Server Express and Connect:Direct for Windows must be installed by the same
user. If you want to allow two different users to install the two components, download
Microsoft SQL Management Studio Express and modify the user configurations.

thank you very much! I was able to uninstall SQL and reinstall with my ID and connect to C:D with no issues.
